NRCA Esports is expanding our program, and we need to reach a goal of $10,000 to outfit an NRCA esports lab. A generous supporter has offered to give a matching donation of $5,000 to NRCA’s esports program if we can raise $5,000 for the program on our own. Please consider supporting NRCA Esports by donating to our expansion. If we meet our goal, we will be able to add the following equipment:
- 3 Gaming PCs
- 3 Consoles
- Gaming Furniture
NRCA Esports was established in 2019 to enrich student life and encourage students with strong interests in gaming, technology, education, and STEM-related content. Esports is fun and challenging. Success takes mental and physical acuity, collaboration, strategy, and passion. Players must exhibit professionalism, cooperation, and skill. Students are challenged athletically and academically. The esports team has competed successfully in games such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League, Minecraft, and Chess.
Since its inception, the esports program has had students win awards and scholarship offers to further their education. In 2019, the team had a student place third in the nation for competitive console play for 2K19. The following year the team had numerous students make it to the playoffs for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In 2022, several students earned spots on their university esports teams, with two competing close to home at UNC Chapel Hill. Other students have found similar communities at their colleges and universities, playing and competing in esports clubs.
