2020-2021 Plan to Open

2020-2021 Plan to Open

Dear NRCA Families,

I pray that you and your families are doing well and enjoying a much-needed summer break.  Please know that you are loved and prayed for often. Although there are still many logistics to be finalized, NRCA is preparing for the first day of school on Monday, August 17, 2020, on campus and in classrooms.

NRCA’s 2020-2021 Schoolwide Theme
“Celebrating 25 Years of God’s Faithfulness”

NRCA is excited to celebrate 25 years of God’s Faithfulness of Kingdom Education ministry throughout the 2020-2021 school year.  Please know that the health and safety of our staff, students, and visitors on campus is a priority.  In order to reopen campus safely and effectively, NRCA continues to review the recommendations being provided by the CDC and NCDHHS as guidelines and procedures are developed to effectively partner with our families in the Kingdom Education of their students.

NRCA has developed four alert levels of operation for the 2020-2021 school year and will adjust quarterly, or as needed based on guidance and recommendations from the CDC and NCDHHS.

  • Green – Normal Operations
  • Yellow – Modified Operations
  • Orange – Restricted Operations
  • Red – Remote Operations

NRCA will begin the 2020-2021 school year under the YELLOW alert level of operation outlined below, and will adjust the alert level quarterly, or as needed based on guidance and recommendations from the CDC and NCDHHS.

Learning Model under the YELLOW alert level of operation:

  • Hybrid Instruction (K-12) – NRCA encourages students to attend classes, on campus. However, NRCA also understands that not every student may be comfortable, or able to return to a physical classroom learning environment.
    • Learning Commitment – Families will commit to either On-Campus or Remote Education for their students in three-week modules.  Learning commitments will be for the duration of the three-week time periods.
      • Q1 Hybrid Instruction Module #1 – Monday, August 17 to Friday, September 4
      • Q1 Hybrid Instruction Module #2 – Monday, September 7 to Friday, September 25
      • Q1 Hybrid Instruction Module #3 – Monday, September 28 to Friday, October 16
    • Schoology & iPads – NRCA will use Schoology and 1:1 iPad technology in grades K-12 to extend the reach of the classroom by providing students access to their classrooms remotely to maintain their daily learning schedule.
    • Attendance – Students learning remotely will be required to attend every class daily, virtually via Schoology/iPad.  Attendance will be taken, daily based on their live participation in each class.

Health and Wellness under the YELLOW alert level of operation:

  • Health & Wellness Commitment: NRCA will ask families to commit to supporting NRCA’s health, wellness and safety protocols by agreeing to keep their student at home when they are not feeling well, experiencing COVID-like symptoms or have been potentially exposed.
  • Daily Temperature Checks: NRCA will ask families to perform daily temperature checks of their students before coming to school.  If a student has an elevated temperature or is experiencing symptoms, they should stay home. NRCA will also be implementing best practices for symptom screening, which may include validating staff/student temperatures on campus as well as all visitors on campus.
  • Nurse’s Office & Quarantine Room: NRCA is developing policies and procedures regarding student care if COVID-like symptoms develop while on campus during the school day. PPE and a separate, designated quarantine room will be provided while they are on campus.
  • Facial Coverings
    • Faculty / Staff – NRCA will require faculty and staff to wear a face-covering or shield while teaching or interacting with others when physical distancing is not possible.
    • Students – NRCA will require students to wear face coverings when physical distancing is not possible.
  • Spiritual / Emotional Safety – NRCA will continue to partner with families and churches in the spiritual growth of our students.  NRCA desires to partner with families in meeting the emotional needs of students by connecting them with local Christian counselors.

Campus Operations under the YELLOW alert level of operation:

  • Campus Cleaning – NRCA will increase daily disinfection and sanitization throughout campus. Classrooms will be disinfected and sanitized every evening.
    • Desks will be sanitized in between each period in grades 6-12.
    • Elementary students will be in self-contained classrooms and desks will be sanitized daily.
  • Hand Sanitizer / Washing – NRCA will provide hand sanitizer stations to be used by staff, older students, and campus guests.  Handwashing will be encouraged throughout the school day.
  • Social Distancing – NRCA will encourage/require social distancing, whenever possible.  Social distancing signage will be posted throughout campus as reminders to stay 6 feet apart.
  • Large Gatherings – Procedures and rotations will be developed for occupying spaces, in a limited capacity, in areas like the cafeteria, Fine Arts Center, and Media Center.
  • Visitors on Campus – NRCA will limit on-campus visitors/guests to only those deemed essential.
    • Facial coverings will be required for all essential visitors/guests while on campus
    • In addition to the normal sign-in/driver’s license scan, a temperature check and symptom screening will be required.
  • Classrooms – Classroom desks will be separated as much as physically possible and will face the same direction.  Classroom furniture will be limited to only necessary, NRCA-issued furniture increasing the footprint of each classroom.

Extracurricular Activities and Athletics under the YELLOW alert level of operation:

  • Aftercare – Aftercare will resume with the new school year, but aftercare activities will be modified to follow health and safety protocols.
  • Athletics – NRCA desires to resume athletic competition this fall.  However, our ability to do so is determined by the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA).  The NRCA Athletic Department has been following their recommendations and guidelines for summer workouts in preparing for competition.
  • Fine Arts/Extracurricular Activities – NRCA desires to resume all Fine Arts and Extracurricular activities when school resumes this fall.  However, modifications will be followed under the YELLOW alert level of operation.

NRCA is grateful to be partnering with your family in Kingdom Education. Our role is not taken lightly or for granted.  NRCA is excited to welcome students back to campus for the first day of school on Monday, August 17.  Please join us in prayer that God will continue to bless NRCA as we celebrate 25 years of ministry throughout the 2020-2021 school year.

Yours for Kingdom Education,
Dr. Kevin Mathes
